Feilden Clegg Bradley’s £50 million new arts and humanities complex for Leeds Metropolitan University has been completed.

Broadcasting Place features 33,528 sq m of new teaching and office space as well as 240 student rooms housed in a 23-storey tower.

The development, in the city centre, is clad in the same alloy, Cor-Ten steel, which was used on the Angel of the North and oxidises over time to give a deep-red colour.

Paul Houghton, a director at project developer Downing, said: “We are delighted to have created something which represents the very best in urban planning, architecture and design and is certain to become - if it’s not already - a focal point for this part of the city centre. “

The project also included preserving the Grade II listed former BBC North headquarters, Broadcasting House, which is being used as teaching and office space.

A new Baptist church on the site will be formally opened later this month.
