Carr Manor High School

The main concept behind the design of Carr Manor is to provide a building which makes a strong statement to the students, staff and community alike and provides a landmark building expressing a clear architectural vision.

The creation of a variety of spaces both internally and externally manifested itself in a radiating theme, linked by a central Arena, partially covered and walkways at varying levels. This will be seen as a place of celebration and performance where celebrations of Sporting Achievements and ceremonies could take place.

A place of learning has civic status but should not be institutional. The concept for organisation and interconnection of the parts should be able to be captured
in a clear diagram.

We have endeavoured to design a building which sits comfortably in its landscape setting where public and private spaces are easily identifiable, where movement through the spaces is easy and has variety and change. In this instance we recognise the desire to provide a protective, welcoming and supportive feel by giving spaces and shelter beyond the basic teaching requirement.

The overall visual impact is thus managed by careful distribution of accommodation, providing a civic building presenting a public presence of appropriate scale to the surrounding neighbourhood.
